The Grocery Bill… Or “I am sorry Tiny Tim we will have to eat you for Christmas.”
Well kids it has happened the economy is now completely circling the bowl awaiting the final downward suction into oblivion. You may be asking “Mr. AngryFish why would you say such a thing?” Well it will be my pleasure to tell you. My wife just got back from her weekly shopping excursion to the local mega mart. When I say mega mart I mean ghetto style, no organic fruits, no free samples of olives and expensive Bree. This place has Captain crunch in serve yourself bins, as well as the rice (Oh forgot they were out of rice), and flour served from a communal 55 gallon drum. Anyway this place is the bargain shoppers paradise as long as you don’t mind feeling like you are visiting a foreign country. So our usual grocery bill, including some non-food items such as a large case of diapers and baby-wipes ranges from $75 to $90. This week it came to almost $140 dollars. I will wager $15 went toward other non-foods but still a $35 jump on the high side of the expenses is a significant blow. For my family of three yep Mom, baby, and myself that leaves the possibility of an extra $140 per month expense. What about all of the people out there with two or more children, or those that take care of an aged family member, or have had to care for other members of their family due to the unemployment rates going up? These poor people could be staring down the barrel of hundreds of extra dollars a month just to feed and their family and provide basic hygiene needs.
We need to do something about this! Do you hear me up there on CAPITOL HILL? Your public the people who vote you into office need you to do something constructive and fix this problem. Hey MEDIA OUTLETS!!! Let’s forget Obama’s Minister for ten minutes and get some stories about how the middle class is shrinking rapidly, how the cost of food IN THIS COUNTRY has gone up, why people are losing their homes because of PREDATORY LENDING on the part of the banking industry not just because some people lied on an application, and why UNEMPLOYMENT IS UP.
I have no idea what the hell good a $600 dollar check from the Feds will do for the economy, I know it isn’t going to curb inflation or bring prices down. Start growing your own vegetables and/or get used buying local fruits because in not too long fuel costs, inflation, and in-accessible credit for individuals/businesses is going to drive prices so high you won’t have a choice… If you have any money to buy fruits and vegetables.
For the record, I know they don’t hear me on Capitol Hill, I know that the media outlets could give two poops about the middle class, I know that the American people are going to take it on the chin as they always do in the face of bad politics, and even worse economics, and yes I already know that it is going to take way more than this little never read never seen blog to change things… But Damn it! I’m trying.
